MAWE

December 2008

Dear Members, Colleagues and Friends,

It is with mixed emotions that I compose this letter. For nearly 88 years the Massachusetts Association for Women in Education (MAWE) has worked to acknowledge the actions and achievements of women in the field of higher education. MAWE and its members have always prided themselves on being able to provide opportunities for mentoring, networking, recognition and social exchange.

Last spring MAWE found itself without a complete core leadership group when the 2006 – 2008 term had run its course.  Unfortunately efforts made to fill the open posts did not meet with success.  While MAWE’s membership base has remained consistent, participation in events has decreased significantly. Historically annual events such as the “MAWE Fall Conference” were cancelled and the leadership required to plan and execute future events is lacking.  At present MAWE cannot sustain the level of service its membership deserves and thusly a decision has been made to discontinue the organization.

This choice was far from easy.  I know I speak for myself and the other members of the past executive board when I say that our membership has been a pure joy to serve.  I truly value my time spent as a MAWE board member.  It is my intention to make every effort to nurture those relationships which were forged through MAWE and I encourage you to do the same.  Additionally I am urging you to pursue other avenues for professional development and exchange.

I would like to take this opportunity to express my sincere appreciation to my friends and colleagues. I have learned a great deal from you and will miss your company. It has been a great pleasure working with you all.

Best wishes to you.

Sincerely,

Sara
